Counselling provides a safe and supportive place for people to process their lives. Be it a recent trauma or loss, a time of transition and exploration, or a long-standing problem, a skilled counsellor can make an enormous difference in how a person, family or couple works through these challenges.

Therapists are trained professionals, skilled in communication, who understand how people work through difficult feelings and events. They help facilitate change. In fact, they are experts in the process of change. A relationship with a therapist can become a profound and deeply moving experience, one that makes life better, richer, and more satisfying.

Dietitians believe in the power of food to enhance lives and improve health.

Dietitians empower their patients, clients, and communities to embrace food, to understand it, and to enjoy it. The advice and information they provide is tailored to their clients and patients personal needs and challenges, including taste and accessibility. They translate the science of nutrition into terms everyone can understand to support healthy living for all Canadians, from preconception to end of life.

A common misconception about dietitians is that they love to put people on restrictive, unpleasant diets but that is truly not the case! They are also not only for people who want to lose weight. Perhaps you want to improve your athletic performance, manage a food allergy, learn how to read food labels, gain some weight, deal with a picky toddler, help an elderly parent to improve their nutrition status, manage digestive/bowel health, prepare for pregnancy, improve your cholesterol/blood pressure/blood sugar, learn about a fad diet, manage your anemia...dietitians can help with all of that and more!

A first meeting with a registered dietitian would usually include a comprehensive assessment to determine goals, health history, preferences, and current nutrition knowledge and practices. The dietitian will provide nutrition counselling and resources as needed, and together you will work to form practical solutions and an individualized nutrition plan. Follow-up plans will vary by person but ongoing support is always available, whether in person or by phone.

Dietitian services are covered by many extended health benefit plans and insurance providers in BC. Check with your provider to determine coverage allowance
Canadian dietitians are held to high professional standards and are regulated under the Health Professions Act, Dietitians Regulation and the CDBC Bylaws.

Under the Health Professions Act, the mandate of the College of Dietitians of BC is to protect the public by ensuring dietitians to practice safely, ethically and competently. To earn the title of registered dietitian, one must complete a minimum of four years of undergraduate education from a recognized dietetics program, followed by a 1300 hour practicum, and finally they must pass the national exam. To maintain RD status, they must continue evidence based, ethical, and competent practice, and demonstrate ongoing continuing education.

Far-infrared (fir) saunas use infrared energy to increase body temperature and encourage sweating and detoxification.
Repeated heating and sweating through infrared sauna therapy:

Improves circulation
Speeds up metabolism and facilitates weight loss
Improves tissue oxygenation and wound healing
Reduces pain
Improves skin function and tone

Heat from an infrared sauna penetrates deeper into the body than traditional saunas. This causes sweating at lower ambient temperatures and enhances detoxification of deeper tissue levels. In general, FIR saunas are more comfortable than regular saunas, as the air remains cooler and easier to breath.

My areas of counselling:

-Discovering the roots of anxiety & improving stress management -Gaining coping skills for better emotion-regulation -Building improved self esteem & establishing appropriate boundaries -Receiving support around making lifestyle changes in health, career, school and relationships -Letting go and finding meaning & enjoyment after loss or trauma -Exploring who you are and gaining acceptance of oneself -Improving relationships (including GLBT issues) with better communication and conflict resolution

In my practice, I have a person-centered, mindfulness-based approach to therapy. I believe in helping the whole individual and creating balance in daily living by creating greater self-awareness, self-acceptance and finding clarity in our individual needs and goals. Counselling is an opportunity to make changes in the aspects of your life that are no longer serving you.

I am passionate about helping and supporting clients through their life challenges. I offer clients a judgment-free space to share their stories, receive support, and gain insightful and productive feedback. My goal as a therapist is to help clients live the life that works best for them, navigate their individual challenges, and create space in their lives for abundant joy and wellness.

My holistic approach is client centered, focusing on a client’s strengths and personal challenges and making the client the expert in their own lives. Together we explore the physical, mental, emotional and social aspects of a client’s life that are influencing wellbeing. As part of this framework, I believe the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to success in counselling, which is why I’m happy to offer a free 30min consultation to ensure I am the right fit for you.

Cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy and body centered therapy are also integrated into my counselling practice, based on each client’s specific needs. By examining thoughts and behaviours, clients are able to find what is working for them and where there is room for change. By listening to the challenges and experience of our bodies we can tap into the mind-body connection, in order to let go of fears, resistance and past traumas that may be holding a client back from becoming their authentic self.

I am also able to offer clients Light Therapy and Guided Meditation as part of our counselling sessions. Light Therapy is targeted for clients that suffer from mood changes due to light deprivation (seasonal affective disorder). This treatment is also helpful for clients who have difficulty getting up in the morning or notice a lack of energy or motivation. Guided Meditation is very useful for clients working through anxiety or trauma.

Training: Masters degree of Arts in counselling psychology, and a registered clinical counsellor with the BCACC. Trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, solution focused therapy and somatic therapy.

Sadie (Mercedes) believes the therapeutic relationship is one of the most powerful tools in a therapist’s toolkit. Her intention is to create a supportive space where clients can feel heard as they create new ways of relating to their world. Her mission is to help people live more conscious lives by the way of learning to embrace life rather than fear it.

Sadie enjoys merging evidence-based approaches with integrative tools such as mindfulness, yoga and hypnosis to help clients achieve their goals. Outside of clinical practice, she is most content spending time in nature, among loved ones and preferably in the company of animals.

Specialties: • Anti-anxiety coaching • Depression • Hypnotherapy (scroll to the bottom of the page for more information).

Areas of Focus: - ADD/ADHD - Anxiety (GAD, OCD, Panic) - Depression - Life transition - Self esteem - Stress management - Substance misuse - Addiction - Disorganized eating - Chronic Pain - Trauma

Psychotherapeutic approaches offered: - Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) - Depth Psychology - Existential - Humanistic - Hypnotherapy - Mindfulness-Based (MBCT): Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Dialectical (DBT) - Positive Psychology

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Clinical hypnosis is a powerful integrative tool when merged with professional counselling or psychotherapy such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Hypnosis is a natural state of trace and can be defined as a “focused attention”. During hypnosis the brain waves radically slow down, such as in REM sleep, which open the gateway to the subconscious mind where our habits, emotions, fears and long term memories are stored. In short, hypnosis allows a conversion to take place between our levels of consciousness which grant the opportunity to change limiting beliefs and conditioned emotional or behavioral responses that can unlock our true potential. Hypnosis like any therapy modality is not a magic cure all, however, there is significant evidence-based research supporting its efficacy in diverse array of mental health concerns such as: anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, self-compassion, self-confidence, motivation, insomnia, pain management, etc.

Sadie offers: In person, Virtual, and outdoor therapy sessions. Sadie also offers a sliding scale - Schedule your free 15-minute interview today to discuss options!
